Occupy Reid

First thing today I made baked macaroni & cheese to bring to Occupy Wall Street.

In a NJ kitchen, Barbara was making rice and beans.
We met up at the appointed time to go visit Reid

Who was presented with a delightful peek-a-boo book

Grandma was happy to share Reid with his official "aunt" Barbara.

Bye Reid - shelly says it's naptime- see you later.
On we travel via "A" train to deliver our food to the wall street occupiers.

NY stock exchange- blocked- no pedestrians please.
We finally made it to the museum of the American Indian at Bowling Green where we contemplated the fate of these peoples at the hands of the "civilized" white man.

A great pre-retirement day for Barbara, and another day in mine.

Occupy Wall Street

According to twitter, Sean Lennon came right after we left, and sang to the crowd. I really can't stand in one place for too long.

The costumes are appearing at Liberty Square!

Not a real priest... Good dancer

Drones - unmanned assassination vehicle. These attacks are inhuman, and I'm so disgusted. Even the nazis got trials. These are more like mafia hits.

Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre - Bound

Early morning visit with Kat & Sparky in Astoria....then they visited Ms. Mack classroom.  Back to the Bronx.....food shopping, then back to Queens for a special treat!

Driving to Long Island City at 5pm on Friday from the Bronx was a little bit hairy, but I listened to Ms. Garmin and found my way and a nearby parking spot. I'm attending the premiere of a modern dance theatre piece starring Sara Sylvan-Genoves, a very talented young woman, and daughter of longtime friend Claire.
And it was moving, poignant, and profound.

Granny Peace Brigade

Silent vigil with Granny Peace Brigade at Lincoln Center. The brave women have been holding vigil since the war in Afghanistan began 10 long years ago.
Over 150 people last night dubbed occupy Lincoln center. I was interviewed by wqxr radio, and most of the concert and theatre goers gave us a thumbs up.
Since I'm now a "granny"
I will be joining them on a regular basis wearing my
"Democracy is not a spectator sport apron."
Pix to come soon.

OWS one month anniversary

A jazzy group of fine working musicians showed up today at Occupy wall street and set up right next to Code Pink table.
Make music & art & love
Instead of spending 2 billion a week on WAR!!

Now I'm going uptown to hear the inimitable Noam Chomsky at Barnard.

Fort Tryon Park OHNY

Saturday & Sunday is Open House New York and I'm volunteering on Saturday from 12-4 in a unique location: the 1930's cottage located at the entrance to Fort Tryon park at Margaret Corbin circle. Take A train to W.190th street and you're right there. Enjoy the heather garden and tour the park which boasts views of the Hudson.
Over 100 people toured the cottage & gardens while I was there. I was hoping to join the peace rally with OWS in times square afterwards, but the legs said no, better follow it on twitter....providing overnight housing to cousins and journalist tonight.

Occupy Wall Street

Today I brought a large tray of veggie chili & wild rice to the good folks @ows. The kitchen crew accepted and gratefully served it with their lunch buffet. I was thinking they might want me to taste it, but they seemed to doubt I would poison them.
Lots of very young folks with their parents taking it all in.

I was wearing my T-shirt with a great Bob Marley quote.. "until the philosophy that holds one race superior and another inferior is discredited or abandoned, everywhere is war!"
A lively band was playing some ragtime, and the mood was festive.
Even friend CJ came for a bit. Now going to read the chris hedges article why the elites should fear #
OWS.

Hiking Fort Tryon Park & back

What a lovely walk along the Hudson! I can't believe we were in Manhattan with the majestic woods and massive rock formations.
Located the Fort Tryon cottage and Heather garden where I will be stationed next Saturday for Open House NY.

Found a nice bathroom in Payson Park near Dyckman

This historic 30's building with slate roof and clean stalls provided a much needed respite coming and going! Makes me think that all public restrooms could use a stimulus.
Walked through Inwood Hill park on way home via Henry Hudson Bridge.
With a nice picnic lunch with friend Amy.

Total- 9.8 miles...
